As I take the day off to spend time with our girls, I find myself reflecting on the goals I set out to do this year. I have started doing most of my new years resolutions, and I am finding it hard to follow some resolutions. Thank God that I am not that easily distracted or loose focus, but this may not be the case for everyone(especially if you are not built to be self motivated).
For example, I have decided that I am going to write a book this year to help married couples understand the complexity of being married and still identifying themselves and their needs. But as I write this blog, I have become aware that, I don't even have a title for my book! It's probably a good idea that I start thinking about that...
Many people go through life doing the same thing, making resolutions and then failing to follow through with them. What are we to do? I propose that we start with the smallest of your resolutions and work your way up the list. This way you'll have a sense of accomplishment which in turn, allows you to develop a positive attitude and helps increase your motivation.
I have used this principle described in this blog with our USANA business, and it has worked. By accomplishing small goals, we have been able to move to bigger ones. USANA has allowed my wife and I to really focus on what is important, to help others live healthier better lives.

See, from the time that I started writing this blog, about 2 hours ago, until now, I went from not having a title to making a national proclamation about the title of my book. I hope that this blog encourages you to implement and accomplish all of your goals this year.

Do you hold your wallet out of the water?
One of the things that I have learn from USANA is to take control of my finances. Although I have been a christian for a while now, this principle is new to me. God send USANA to my life, to show me the most fundamental principle of all, surrender all to God, including my finances. The more I surrender to God, the more HE blesses me with more.
When the crusades were being fought during the 12th century, the crusaders employed mercenaries to fight on their behalf. Because it was a religious war, they were required to be baptized. As they were baptized, they held their swords out of the water to symbolize the one thing in their life that Jesus Christ did not control was their swords. They had the freedom to use their swords any way they wished.
Many Christians today hold their wallets, their checkbooks, and their credit cards out of the water the same way! We want God to control everything in our life, but we want full control of our finances. The Bible states "To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance, But from those who are unfaithful, even what little they have will be taken away." Matthew 25:29-30

A business with small overhead
As an attorney, when I was presented the opportunity to have my own law firm, I grabbed it an ran with it. Little that I knew, the expenses that came with owning your own business. From employee salaries, to office supplies, the overhead grew larger every month. Our overhead has reached to $20,000 a month.
Many of my colleagues do not own their own law office, simply because they cannot afford the overhead. In this economy, many business are being closed, simply because expenses are far greater than profits. I used to teach this principles at Devry University graduate level, and many of my students were amazed.
Robert Kyosaki teaches us in his readings that there are four types of people. Employees, small business, large companies, and investors. He place them on what he calls the cash flow quadrant and he simply states that if you are one of the first two, you are not making any significant amount of money. You need to be on the last two, in order to be considered a person with real assets.
To be a large company you have to either own your own franchise, which can cost you thousands or even millions of dollars, so if you don't have that kind of money, you might as well forget it or create a company and hope that it grows. In this economy, highly unlikely.
Now, what can regular people do if they cannot afford owning a franchise or forming a company? Luckily there is a solution for each and every one of us that are seriously interested in making significant amounts of money.

I am thankful for 2008
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening. Psalm 92:1 As another year comes to an end, we urge you to give thanks to God for the wonderful, and not so wonderful things that happened in your life this year.
I am thankful to God for the United States of America that is a free country in which people may express their opinions openly. Thank you God that I live in this country.
I am thankful to God for the history that has been created this year with our presidency. Although I did not vote for our president elect, I am thankful that in this country, the voice of the people matters. Thank you God that I live in this country.
I am thankful to God for our economy. Even though we are in a recession, many people can still find ways to make it better for themselves during this crisis. Thank you God that I live in this country.
I am thankful to God for our soldiers. Although many of them are in harms way, because of them, we have a free country were we are able to live our lives in peace by the sacrifice of others. Thank you God that I live in this country.
I am thankful to God for our businesses. Even though many of them are collapsing because of mismanagement and because of the economy, many others are rising to the occasion and bringing new hope to the people to better their lives. Thank you God that I live in this country.

Have you set your 2009 goals yet?
Though it may seem some what crazy to be thinking about goals for 2009, these last days preceding the beginning of the new year are the perfect time to start declaring them. As the curtain closes on 2008, you should already be assessing the past events of the year and start thinking about how you can make the next year different. Our question to you is, did you achieve all of your goals in 2008? If you didn’t, how can you make changes to achieve those goals?
Setting goals now for 2009 allows you plenty of time to decide which goals you really want to achieve this new year. One of our mentors indicated to us that we needed to hold a family meeting to talk about the things our family wanted or needed. This allowed for every person in the family to come to the table with a goal which ensured that all members were working together to achieve the same goals even though they were at different levels.
One of the things that you should do is take a look at your finances and decide what is actually possible. This allows you to put your new goals down on paper and start your progress towards them. In 2009, my wife, children and I decided that we were going to share our blessings even more than we have with people around us. Since we are FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT, we wanted to help others achieve that same INDEPENDENCE.
One of the best ways to achieve FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE is to observe those who are, surround yourself with people who are and learn from them so you too can be FINANCIALLY FREE. Successful people surround themselves with other successful people, and you need to do the same. You need to learn the secrets from them that made them successful.
One of our mentors Brian Bohlke, showed us a way to earn residual income which allowed us to have MORE TIME and MONEY for our family. He showed us the way to rely on the efforts of others to help make us money.

What is your New Year's Resolution?

How many of your resolutions made the list? For the most part, we all have dreams or resolutions; however, not everyone has an implementation plan to make those resolutions a reality. Year after year, we make the decision to change, but we do not follow through with the required step to achieve it.
For example, we make the decision to spend more time with family & friends but we can't because our jobs won't allow it. We are trading time spend at our jobs for money to support our families and its not working. We never have enough time to do anything we really want to do, or the money to do it with because our jobs do not pay enough, or even if the job paid enough, we still would not have enough time because our jobs requires our full time and attention.
Conversely, we make the resolution that we are going to get out of debt, but again, with our jobs, its almost impossible to do. We do not have enough money to make this resolution a reality.
Moreover, we make the resolution that we are going to get in shape, get better health, eat right, but we go out onto the world, and its almost impossible to do. Every corner is bombarded with fast food restaurants and junk food. No wonder we are such an obese society.
How would you like this year to make your resolutions become a reality? What if we told you that you can have more time, money and health to do what you really want to do in life. To spend time with your loves one, to be financially free and to have the health to enjoy it all. How can I accomplish all my resolutions this coming year?
My wife and I are having our resolutions become a reality right before our eyes. We are having more time to spend, more money to spend and more health. Since now we have time, money and health, our goal is to share the same with as many people as we can.

Recession proof income
According to economists, since 1854, the U.S.A. has encountered 32 cycles of expansions and contractions, with an average of 17 months of contraction and 38 months of expansion. However, since 1980 there have been only eight periods of negative economic growth over one fiscal quarter or more, and four periods considered recessions:
January-July 1980 and July 1981-November 1982: 2 years total
July 1990-March 1991: 8 months
March 2001-November 2001: 8 months
December 2007-December 2008: 11 months and counting*
* Note that this latest recession doesn't meet the traditional two quarter drop in GDP, yet it is considered a recession by the NBER.
From 1991 to 2000, the U.S. experienced 37 quarters of economic expansion, the longest period of expansion on record.
For the past three recessions, the NBER decision has approximately conformed with the definition involving two consecutive quarters of decline. However the 2001 recession did not involve two consecutive quarters of decline, it was preceded by two quarters of alternating decline and weak growth.

Produts that will change your life forever
Before my wife and I started with USANA, we had been looking for ways to improve our health. We tried many diets, supplements, colonic, and many other things that were always hard to follow, uncomfortable and they were only killing us instead of helping us. So we searched long and hard via friends, Internet, magazines for ways to accomplish our goal.

Why don't you come with me to a meeting on Thursday. So she did, and it has changed our lives forever.

Magnesium intake and risk of type 2 diabetes
A meta-analysis recently published in the Journal of Internal Medicine analyzed the association between magnesium intake and the risk of type 2 diabetes. The meta-analysis involved studies of magnesium intake (both from foods only and from foods and supplements) published between 1966 and 2007. Seven studies meeting the criteria were identified, and in total they included 286,668 participants and 10,912 cases. All but one study found an inverse relation between magnesium intake and risk of type 2 diabetes, and in four studies the association was statistically significant. Overall, an increase of 100 mg of magnesium per day resulted in a 15% reduction in overall risk of type 2 diabetes.
Based on these studies, magnesium intake is inversely associated with incidence of type 2 diabetes. This finding suggests that increased consumption of magnesium from supplements and foods such as whole grains, beans, nuts, and green leafy vegetables may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
